Kennedy Meadows
Today is the day! We will walk the last few miles into Kennedy Meadows! The “conclusion” of the desert section of the PCT! So cool! Being a Seattlite that usually withers whenever sunlight touches her skin I’m pretty proud of myself for making it through 702.2 miles of limited shade. Yay me.
Waiting for the shuttle to the Grumpy Bear restaurant.
Yes. We hike 20+ miles a day.
No. We won’t walk 4 miles while we are in town.
At the KM general store I picked up my many packages of various clothes and food that will help me get through to my next resupply in Independence. A little over 90 miles away. Though that mileage doesn’t sound like a lot to my desert hiker self, going into this new section will be accompanied with a very different hiking style. My average mileage will be cut in half, making this section take at least nine days to cover, and I will be waking up early to make sure I get most of my mileage in while the snow is still frozen. Early. Before the sun is out. Before warmth. Not too excited about that but in the end I think it will be good. Plus! I’ll be hiking with my group ALL DAY. Not just hiking separate and then meeting up to camp. We will be together forever and always. Hopefully we don’t get too annoyed with each other.
My mum loves me. I originally panicked at the sight of all the stuff I was going to have to carry and worried about whether my pack could fit everything and if my body would be able to carry the weigh. I put off putting everything into my pack as long as I could so that task was left unfinished for the day.
Lots of poison water was to be had by the trail fam tonight. Minus me of course.
