Whitewater Preserve
Last night I most likely slept a total of two hours. The wind combined with the loud flapping sound my rainfly makes when it isn’t able to be staked down correctly (which is all the time) made it so that my night was spent lying awake, waiting for morning to come so I could get up and do something.
Finally, when the sun started to come out I got up and took my rainfly off so it wouldn’t drive me crazy while I got ready. At this point I realized I should have done that in the middle of the night but getting out of the tent seemed like so much effort at the time. Anyways. After getting ready K and I started to head to our first checkpoint of the day. We got there around 10, just as the day started to heat up. Those first 7 miles were the best of the day. Not too hot. After that it just got worse for me. By the time we had left the picnic area, the sun was already at what seemed to be it’s brightest and hottest. But of course later in the day it was even hotter.
Today was not really a good day. From the not sleeping to the hot temperatures it was just meh. It had some good moments, like when I walked through a windfarm and I got to use a restroom with running water but today is probably the first day in the entire trip so far I am going to bed sad. Maybe because it’s almost my birthday or because even with K around I feel lonely or maybe I am not alone enough or just because I’m tired. I have lots to think about tomorrow….
I listened to multiple podcasts and a lot of music to get me through the day. There weren’t many people along the trail today so no one really to talk to. Hopefully tomorrow is better. 35 miles to Big Bear. Two more sleeps and a wake up… I can do this.
I found the raisins in my peanut butter!!! They have been stuck at the bottom for the first half of my Cinnamon Raisin Peanut Butter’s lifespan. It’s the little things.
