Gevanim to Mitzpe Ramon

We had a road walk to begin the day but the sun was still low so it was still bearable. The INT has lots of 4x4 road walks. We crossed the main paved road and then made our way up a steep ascent. Then a decent descent but nothing out of the ordinary other than sketchy pebbles on a steeper slope. Then we walked for some time before finding the ammonite wall. Huge ammonites were fossilized into this rock, the biggest one we saw was 1.5ft in diameter.

After a break that is mandated by the guide book (I want to throw it off every cliff we come to for the way it is written) we continued on to the second ascent of the day. This was a good amount of rock scrambling at the beginning and then a steep larger pebble descent. Views at the top were wonderful as we looked across the crater towards Mitzpe Ramon. It was almost 10:00 and we set the goal to have lunch in town before the Sabbath began.

The final ascent, the crater wall, was proceeded by a walk across the crater floor to a lone acacia tree and a sandy trudge toward the base of the wall. Once starting up the hill, I noticed the INT went back down, toward the acacia tree that we had just stopped at, then back to where we were and up the wall. This was obviously bullocks and none of us were taking it. We continued up the way we had started and found out that that was the original trail.

We finished in town at the Green Backpackers hostel at 12:30. We dropped off our things at the hostel and went to the grocery store and veggie market. I ate two pitas stuffed with falafels before we even made it to dinner. We met a group of Germans who asked us to join them for dinner spaghetti. I learned that one of them grew up in the same town that I spent a lot of time in as a kid. Such a small world.
