Flight to San Diego

It’s pretty weird to think that the 4.5 hour trip (including an hour layover) is covering almost the same distance that it will take me over four months to hike. It is making me think I am out of my mind. Oh well. I accept it.

As I sit in the first leg of my flight to San Diego I am hoping my checked bag is sitting somewhere under my feet… Preferably not getting smashed between other luggage, but that is wishful thinking. As long as I get through this flight without choking on my pineapple again I will consider it a success.

I made it to San Diego in one piece yay. Staying at the trail angel’s house of Scout and Frodo is definitely an experience. So many people. But everyone has been extremely nice. Of course I found an unexpected item in the duffel bag I brought some of my gear in (specifically my jar of peanut butter considering the last time the TSA guy ripped it out of my carry-on proclaiming it has the potential to become a bomb… Ya right… In my digestive tract maybe). Anyways. Since I couldn’t just put a jar of PB in a duffel bag and check it in I added some of my other stuff to justify it. Back to the unexpected item. Lo and behold I found my brothers long lost wallet with his ID and bank card. This caused me to take an unplanned trip to the post office but allowed me to get away from the crowd and breath a little which was nice.

After dinner a bunch of us watched a pack shake down and it made me feel a little better about what I have in my pack. I still feel nervous about starting out tomorrow. I feel like I am going to forget how to walk or something once I meet the trailhead. And though I am very glad I am having this experience at Scout and Frodo’s I feel like I would have less nervousness going into tomorrow had I been dropped off by a family member instead of as part of a giant 29 person group.

I am off to “sleep” (probably not going to get much). Tomorrow is the day.

Thanks for checking in!
