Warner Springs

After getting into “town” around 830 pm last night I took the morning and most of the afternoon to gather my thoughts. My feet and legs felt amazing. Even after a 25 mile day I was very pleasantly surprised. Once the community center opened the woman inside gave the run down on how the bucket shower and laundry system worked. I even got to pick out my own loaner clothing from their donation closet to wear while my clothes dried! Of course I found some purple sweats and an over sized shirt.

Being clean is so nice.

While my clothes hung out to dry, K, a hiker named RB who we have caught up to multiple times, and I went to have breakfast at the golf “resort” in “town”.

After breakfast, K and I got our resupply boxes from the post office. I was so proud when I saw my estimated time of arrival was the 17th. It’s the 17th!

Once we got back to the community center I started laying out my stuff to see what I could send home. I knew I was going to leave my hiking poles in a hiker box because one had lost its tip the first day I used them (on the second day). I can hike fine without them and so I don’t see a reason to use them until maybe the snowy Sierras. I also ended sending home my camera I had every intention of documenting this trip with but have found that my phone is much easier to whip out. The maps I had planned on carrying ended up not making the cut either since I didn’t look at them once in the past 6 days. As long as I’m with K and her phone I should be set. The moment I am separated from her I’ll get my maps back or download the Guthooks app for myself. The pack’s brain also went home. Oh. A book I bought for the flight to San Diego went back too. I’ll read it later. Between writing this and hiking all day and trying to sleep. That book was nowhere near interesting enough for me to carry it around.

After going to the post office again, I found a new toothbrush to replace my original half toothbrush that I have deemed impractical even for its weight. K and I then had lunch at the “resort” before heading back into the trail.

We went about 6 miles out of town before finding a nice camping spot near a creek where we can fill our water before we start out tomorrow.

Now I am going to bed relatively clean and not smelly. Thanks for reading!
