Petal Points Test Quilt
Petal Points Quilt by Strawberry Creek Quilts
In March, while I was taking care of my mom for a bit after she had surgery, I tested the baby sized version of Strawberry Creek Quilts’ first pattern, Petal Points! I internet met Bhiravi the month before during a sew-a-long we both participated in and I instantly fell in love with her eye for color and unique takes on different patterns. When I found out that she was writing and releasing her own pattern I knew I wanted to be one of her testers.
Because I was staying with my mom at the time I did not have the luxury of going to my usual fabric shop and had to make-due with what I was able to find at one of the chain fabric stores that was near by. Luckily that had Kona Cotton Solids and I was able to find a backing that matched perfectly. What better fabrics to welcome spring with than a classic green, yellow and pink combination.
Surprisingly (or maybe not), this was the first pattern that I attempted that included flying geese sub blocks. I had never tried making one before but the instructions and illustrations included in the pattern were so clear that it felt like I had been making them forever.
Once I had all the subblocks trimmed up the final blocks came together incredibly quickly and after that the whole quilt was just as speedy.
Just look at that quilt swirl. Swoon.
Basting was a breeze since the unfinished quilt top fit on top of my table without any overhang to worry about.
I never know what to do for quilting so for this one I just outlined all the seems with a stitch a quarter inch on either side. At first I wasn’t super happy with how it turned out because the un-quilted quilt top was so lovely on its own and the quilting made the seems less straight. Now that it has been some time, I think it looks like a handmade quilt. As it should.
I kind of rushed to complete this guy so I could take photos of it before the Washington weather turned grey again and I really wish that I had put some small hanging corners on it since the baby size could also double as a cute wall hanging. Maybe I will add those it at some point.
I love this pattern and it was extremely enjoyable to make! I really want to make a bigger version of it, at least a throw size, to have in the living room.
