Happy Birthday, Me!!!!
PCT hikers have their priorities straight. McDs on an official sign. Chuckle.
My birthday breakfast that proves I’m 23 going on 8.
These wonderful humans wished me happy birthday without me having to remind them or anything (I told them it was going to be my birthday on Saturday two nights ago). I was hugged and everything. It was the best present I could have received from them.
When I had checked into the Best Western and received my resupply box from the front desk, I opened my room’s door to find this wonderful spread of fruits and veggies and hummus on the bed! The manager had followed me from the bottom floor and called out happy birthday as I walked into the room. I thanked him and started to put my pack down (after I took a picture of course) and noticed a cell phone strategically placed so that the camera was facing the door. For a second I thought it was the manager doing that for my parents but as I got closer I recognized the phone as none other than my mum’s cell phone! She was hiding in the bathroom the whole time!!!!!!! Best present ever.
After my mum got to know my hiking friends K and DB and I had made a substantial dent in the assortment of fruits and veggies (and K and DB made a dent in the IPAs my mom had provided) she took me to Target and then we got chipotle for the four of us to eat for dinner.
Though I only hiked 6.6 and a little today (still haven’t taken a complete zero yet) I am exhausted from all the socializing that people do on birthdays. But it was fun.
