Dam It Is Hot
Mile 312-335.3
Due to the longer day yesterday, K and I took our time getting out of our tents. We ate our breakfasts (and in my case most of my snacks) and started to hike around 8.
We came across a rather wide water crossing with absolutely no rocks or logs to walk across. Because I was in no mood to walk the entire day with wet shoes and socks I changed into my sandals and walked across in those. The water definitely woke me up. After K was done getting water she made her way across barefoot.
We stumbled upon a wild DB in his natural habitat.
We walked by a large dam for a little bit and then the trail popped us out at the base of it. Just imagine if that had cracked while we were having our snack down there. Yikes!
I wore a hole in my sock already… Luckily I can’t notice the hole while walking so I can wait until my other pair are sent to me while still wearing these.
Walking next to a highway is zero fun. Especially when it is so hot.
We ascended for a bit and found ourselves at the lake that was created by the dam we walked by earlier. Kind of cool.
We took a little break at a picnic area where a school bus had just dropped off a plethora of students who where apparently going to spend the weekend there with their teachers. That was a bit overwhelming. It was funny to see how much stuff they brought for just a few nights. I would bet the contents of my pack that they did not use 75% of what they lugged off that bus.
