Negative One

This morning after having breakfast at the hotel and getting ready and making sure we had everything we all walked to the post office so P and I could send some items home. I sent home the book I finished and some tent baggies I didn’t need anymore. After my items were out of my hands we sat outside the post office and just sat. I ate the rest of my hummus from the day before and the carrots I had not opened yet. I finished all of them and then realized I still had an entire cabbage to eat… I needed more hummus.

We then walked further down the street to the Big 5 to replenish our fuel canisters for the first stretch of the sierras. After that we went to the store and DB and AH got sandwiches for the road and I got more hummus, ziplocks and protein cookies for the next two days.

The man that had also watched the circle yesterday evening met us around 1 and drove DB, AH and I to the trailhead. P wasn’t feeling well so he stayed in town another night just to make sure he got better.

Once at the trailhead I needed to deconstruct my couscous and quinoa dinners from their original packaging. I didn’t want to carry 5 cardboard boxes all the way to Kennedy meadows. So I convinced DB and AH to hike a mile backwards to the campsite where DB and I stayed before we went into town.

We ended up meeting some really nice trail angels that kept the trail magic stocked in that location. I finished my cabbage and a bunch of the cuties before I put the rest (of the cuties… not cabbage) into the trail magic box for other hikers to enjoy. We talked to a person named Options who volunteers with the PCTA in the Portland area and who was staying at the campsite in his RV. He cooked is hotdogs (two of my veggie ones as well) and let us watch a movie in his RV. Such a wonderful night. He also provided DB and AH with poison water even though, like me, he doesn’t drink that stuff! Yay I’m not alone.

While we were there for the rest of the evening I found out that AH is a heavy farter. And apparently so is DB. My dad was right. All men are pigs. Not that I ever questioned that statement. AH and DB were basically going back and forth with their flatulence. One of DBs farts literally shook the picnic table we were sitting at. Facepalm.

After we finished the movie, DB made a fire in one of the fire pits and we stood around it for a while. We all went to bed and I fell asleep in a good 3 minutes. Even though we hiked negative 1 miles on the trail it was a good day.
