Good Eats
Because of going to bed way past my bedtime last night I woke up later than I had hoped. I made myself a large breakfast and then packed everything up.
I started hiking at 8 but then stopped at the road to check messages and then met a really nice couple who stopped to add some cuties to the trail magic there. The man offered me a ride and some cuties and carrots but I explained I had my fair share of them the last two days. The woman gave me a hug and wished me luck on my adventure. I really started hiking around 830. To my surprise I wasn’t that far behind DB. He probably took a break already. At around 9 I met two hikers who had been in town for the last 4 days. Freebird and Raven. We talked for a while and then I started up the 7 mile climb. Apparently when AH passed them a few minutes earlier they were hiking without clothes on. What I wouldn’t give to have seen his face in that situation.
Tonight I used a cup cozy that was left in a hiker box that was specifically made for the container I use to rehydrate food. I could completely tell the difference between using it and before. My food was actually hot when it was fully hydrated!. Today I even boiled some veggie dogs and used the water from that to rehydrate my couscous. #conservewater DB even gave me some fresh cherry tomatoes and bell pepper to add in as well. My tastebuds were not disappointed. We ate a few miles from where we were camping. We talked with a few weekend hikers and a couple that was section hiking. One can really tell the difference between someone attempting a thru hike and someone just out for a short while.
After eating we walked in the dark for a bit until we found AH’s snoring.
Now I’m safe in my tent without my rain fly. I’m living on the edge tonight. The stars are too gorgeous to not look at them while I fall asleep.
