Sierra City
Due to the disastrous bivy idea I had I didn't sleep very well and as a result got up decently early and started hiking not long after that. I made it to Sierra City including hiking the 1.5 miles in (as I've said before, my hitching abilities are non-existent). On the way in I stopped by their library to use the wifi to message my parents to send my tent. Then I grabbed lunch with a few people and met a group who had just completed the whole Sierras! I was pretty jealous and so so impressed.
I checked out the grocery store to see if they had anything worth paying their inflated sticker prices. I found some bug spray and added that to my pack. Before I left I met a hiker, named FP, who I had seen at the library earlier and he offered me some of his bread and nutella telling me it was really expensive. Nah I'm good thanks though.
I ended up taking a quick shower, not because I was dirty but because I wanted my hair to be wet when I started hiking in the heat. It was a good idea in theory... Everything dried so quickly it really didn't matter much though by the time I needed to be cool.
On the ascent out of that valley I met a girl who thru hiked last year but was doing a section this year. Apparently there wasn't anymore snow. Hallelujah. I saw what I assumed to be a forest fire being managed by planes with red clouds coming our of their bellies. Towards the top FP and two skinny guys he was hiking with (I know really specific, especially in this community) passed me and started setting up camp a little ways off trail from where I was taking a break. I had half a mind of stopping there and joining them because I was tired and it looked like a great spot. But I kept going, not having the guts to meet new people just yet.
Further up the trail I passed a couple people's packs laying next to the trail. One of them looked really familiar and I realized that the person with that pack had started the same day as I did back in Campo! I spotted her and her hiking partner sitting on a rock a little ways away and then I saw a kitten. They were the people with the trail kitten. What the heck. kind of cool. kind of crazy but still pretty awesome. I night hiked with them for a bit and then had dinner with them. I attempted to use my bivy again and again was not having it.
