Big Bear City

This morning, even though I got up reluctantly, I put away my tent and was ready to go in record time. I chalk it up to it being freezing and me wanting to start hiking to get away from the wind. Before we started the 13 miles to the road that would take us into Big Bear City I ran to the trail magic and grabbed a banana for K and I to have with our breakfasts. After six miles we stopped for breakfast and had a view of part of Big Bear City.

The added banana made my chocolate-peanut butter oatmeal so much better.

At mile 266.something the trail meets a road that goes to Big  Bear City. It’s hard to imagine that I am already 10 percent of the way to Canada! It’s like when you are loading a really long book and you finally get to that first two digit percentage mark. It’s pretty exciting. Pretty unbelievable though at the same time.

The most lovely women picked K and I up after we tried hitchhiking for an hour where the trail meets the road. Thank you Linda! She dropped us off at the post office and invited us to stay at her home in Big Bear Lake (different from Big Bear City). We politely declined and parted ways.

I’ve probably done more laundry in these 2 weeks than I usually do in 2 months at home. Trying to find clothes to wear while cleaning all of the clothes your are carrying on your back is tricky but hiker boxes (where people leave their unwanted/unused items) is a life changer. They usually don’t produce the most stylish outfits but they cover what needs to be covered.

K and I are staying in a room with a very feline-y theme. The door says it’s the Mountain Lion room but there are definitely some deviations from that in the decor. Many a Bengal tiger sitting arround. Which is funny because yesterday we walked passed a private zoo (when my phone had lost its camera abilities aka it was dead) where we saw a few grizzly bears and a Bengal tiger. I wasn’t too happy to see the caged animal but that is just me.

I spent the evening downloading more podcasts and music for the coming weeks and catching up with the fam and my better half who is single handedly providing me with my caloric resupply boxes for this endeavor. I cannot wait to try the new recipes I found in my ameri-unicorn laden box today!

Time to get some sleep and get on the trail after a good breakfast. Next stop Cajon Pass!
