Mount Laguna
Started at 645. I had two stream crossings before 8. My feet were wet until we took lunch around 1. After about 10 miles my legs wanted to die and my mental toughness had some fights with my self confidence.
After resting by a creek for about an hour with my shoes off and my tent set out to dry I was ready to tackle the rest of the miles to Mount Laguna.
Once we were there I wasn’t sure if I would want to press on or not considering what my brain was telling me earlier in the day. After getting to the general store in town I was pretty tired. But I found FRUIT.
It was the most glorious thing! It’s only been two days since eating something that wasn’t purchased weeks ago and wrapped in plastic.
After I ate my oranges and K ate her pizzas we started to hike out of town (not heading the warning of a local that it was going to be extremely windy). The last couple miles of the day my legs felt amazing. I could have kept going a few more if it hadn’t been getting dark and if I wasn’t about to be blown off the trail by the winds. After a couple miles of unacceptable campsites that we though would blow our tents away we came to a relatively calm valley area where one other hiker had set up camp. Of course we thought there was something better down the trail so we kept going. Not surprisingly there wasn’t anything better. So we settled for a small opening between some scraggly looking trees and squished ourselves in there. By helping one another we both managed to get our tents and rain flies up without losing any critical pieces.
