Mosquito Water
This morning K and I got up and packed up our tents by 7 o'clock. We met some day hikers who told us there had been a wind advisory the night before. Go figure. We started off the day strong and went about 10 miles before 11 but after that we started to feel yesterday’s extra miles.
The desert is really pretty when you have enough water. Speaking of… this stretch of the desert has a really low number of water sources so we had to be creative. I currently have some filtered and tablet purified non-potable water in my water bladders. Probably with a few mosquitoes mixed in. Hopefully I don’t get poisoned.
As I lay in my tent I am listening to the other hikers talk and a coyote howling hopefully far away.
Tomorrow we hope to get to Julian when stores are still open to grab a few things before heading for Warner Springs.
I’m pretty sunburnt on my hands, cheeks and calves… nothing is stinging but I feel like a sun dried tomato that has been rolled in sand a few times… I say feel because I haven’t actually seen what I look like in a few days. It’s pretty liberating.
I’m trying a new sleeping configuration tonight. I usually sleep with my pack at the foot of my tent with my sleeping pad laid over it so I can elevate my legs. Tonight, I am using the same tactic but for my head instead. It’s pretty comfy.
Look dad! I didn’t bring the line so i used a stick and a rock. Aren’t you proud?
