Drunk Local
After a night of sleeping under the stars, I was happy to find my things were not covered in dew the next morning.
Because of where we ended hiking to the night before we found out that we were pretty close to the cafe we had eaten at the day before. DB called the cafe to see if the shuttle they provide for the hikers at hiker town would be willing to pick us up from a different location. They were! The owner came and picked us up in his transportation van and we spent the majority of the heat of the day in the air-conditioned Wi-Fi enabled cafe and ate breakfast burritos and snacks until it got cooler.
At some point during our stay a local started conversing with us and was really nice. And then he started to get a little creepy. He was already pretty intoxicated when he first joined us at our table but he continued his poison water until he became a little too friendly. Once we found the owner of the cafe again he dropped us back off at the trail and we started walking for a bit. After a few miles we saw a truck driving down the road that the PCT follows and it stopped right in front of us. It was the creepy drunk guy. I kept walking with P while AH and DB talked to him. Eventually he drove away and we have not seen or heard from him since. Later that evening we found out that a couple people had been ordered to get into his truck to be shuttled to the next water source. While he was drunk. Sigh.
After a few more miles we found ourselves at a little campsite right by a water faucet that the windmill farm allows hikers to use. The view was gorgeous. I ended up cowboy camping again and after a few pages of reading I fell asleep with no problem.
